Bringing more administrative controls to Google Apps for mobile

Last September we announced Google Sync with push Gmail support and 2-way sync for calendar and contacts for iPhone, Nokia E series, and Windows Mobile devices.

Tomorrow we are taking the next step towards access from any location, on any device by launching new administrative controls that give these devices mobile access to Google Apps. Without having to deploy any additional software or manage enterprise mobile services, Google Apps Premier and Education customers will be able to manage their employees’ mobile devices right from the Google Apps administration control panel.

These controls will enable new administrative policies for employees using iPhones, Windows Mobile devices, and Nokia E series phones including:

Remotely wipe all data from lost or stolen mobile devices
Lock idle devices after a period of inactivity
Require device passwords on each phone
Set minimum lengths for more secure passwords
Require passwords to include letters, numbers and punctuation

Digicel: 3 Months Free to New Subscribers

Digicel Bermuda is offering its customers three months of free service if they sign up for a voice plan during February.

And if users add on extras, such as ‘Unlimited Local SMS‘, ’100 International SMS’, or ‘Unlimited Nights & Weekends’, they will also be free during March, April and May.

“In this economic climate, we know finances can be stretched; why not give customers a break for a few months out of the year?” said Digicel Bermuda’s CEO Wayne Caines.

The promotion applies to new customers, but current customers can also take advantage of Digicel’s ‘Refer a Friend’ programme.

Okay, it doesn’t have that little bookshelf image. But you’ve got to admit: The Google Chrome version of Apple’s iPad doesn’t look all that different.

And the bezel is smaller. Everyone hated the iPad’s huge bezel.

Okay, they’re not actually putting this thing into production yet (these are just concept UIs). But, bottom line, Apple’s not likely to have the gigantic two-year lead in the tablet market they had in cell phones.

Michael Dell pulls Mini 5 Android from his pocket

Hot on the heels of us thinking maybe the Dell Streak / Mini 5 was possibly due for a name change to the “M01M,” a roving heckler from TechCrunch managed to catch the man himself, Michael Dell, on the street and get a quick demonstration of the thing — which he with no uncertain terms referred to as the “Mini 5.” He swiped through a number of home screens and quickly showed the five megapixel camera on the back, mentioned 3G wireless, and then tucked it away again. No price was given, but the biggest news is confirmation that it’s coming out in “a couple of months,” which is something of a surprise given the company was still calling it a concept just a few weeks ago. Video of this choice encounter is after the break.
