The eagerly anticipated mobile browser from Firefox, Fennec, has shown another bit of leg this weekend. A picture of the browser in operation on an Android Nexus One has set salivary glands working around the world.

What’s this now?

The Mozilla Foundation is the non-profit organisation that runs Firefox – the most widely downloaded on-line browser in the world. Fennec is the mobile version of Firefox that the Mozilla Foundation is preparing for smaller devices – not just mobile phones, but also PDAs and other mobile computers.

Although it should be noted that it has been preparing Fennec for a long time now, and some of us would actually quite like to see it get released some time soon, please.

Fennec on Nexus One:

The Firefox for Mobile facebook group posted these images over the weekend:

Fennec on Droid

They show Fennec running on the two most advanced Android devices currently available: the Droid and the Nexus One.

What we think?

Yay, more teasing! I’m a huge fan of Firefox on both my Mac and my PC, and I’ve been using it for years. It has an unparalleled community of developers who create great apps and add-ons for the browser – which would be a fantastic boost for the mobile version. I appreciate that the Mozilla Foundation is taking its time with this, and making sure it’s perfect. But come on, already.

No surprises here, with both the WinMo-running M10 and Android-powered A50 both leaked in January by Asustek’s president. The partnership between Garmin and Asustek has resulted in a few lacklustre phones, but the A50 actually sounds more than decent.

They’re boasting it brings “more location technology than any other smartphone,” as you’d expect from the satnav dudes at Garmin. The hardware isn’t all that surprising, with a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen, a 3.0-megapixel camera with autofocus and geotagging, Bluetooth, 4GB of internal storage (with the usual microSD card slot) and an accelerometer. No word on Wi-Fi just yet.

Bundled with the phone is a car mount and power cable for the car, which is a nice touch—nothing worse than having to fork out for additional accessories after laying down a few hundred on the actual device. The software is, of course, Garmin’s turn-by-turn navigation.

It’ll go on sale sometime in the first six months of 2010—nice and vague—and the price hasn’t been announced (or rumored, in the M10′s case) just yet.

That aforementioned M10 (above) won’t be showing up with Windows Mobile 7, launching instead with 6.5.3 (though presumably it’ll be available for a software update once WinMo 7 launches at the end of the year). Specs sound just like they did when Asustek president Benson Lin blabbed last month about it, with the 3.5-inch WVGA resistive touchscreen, 4GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM and the same again for ROM. Garmin and Asustek have chosen a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM 7227 chip which won’t steal too many headlines, but at least it’s running the most recent version of WinMo, eh? The rumored price was $435 last month, but we’ll keep you updated once we receive official word. No price was given, but the biggest news is confirmation that it’s coming out in “a couple of months,” which is something of a surprise given the company was still calling it a concept just a few weeks ago. The device comes with the usual spread of smartphone features – high-res touchscreen, internet, email, GPS, a variety of messaging options, camera, video and music playback and storage, the works. It has on-screen QWERTY keyboard instead of the slide-out version from HTCs previous Android device, the HTC Dream (or G1, if you like). And it has full access to the Android Market application marketplace.

What we think?

Man, a delay is the last thing we want with this phone. At least it’s only a few weeks. At this point, Android has a lot to prove. There’s a vast amount of interest in the OS, despite it’s only existing on one device. By the end of the year not only will we have the Dream, but Samsung has announced three Android devices, and Sony Ericsson and Motorola have announced plans to develop Android powered devices. T-Mobile even declared it’s intent to release two devices powered by Android that aren’t even smartphones.
