Digicel Introduces New Vehicle Tracking System in Jamaica

Could mean new competition to Telecom Bermuda, should Digicel seek to introduce to the Bermuda market:

Kingston, Jamaica — June 18, 2007 – Digicel, the fastest-growing mobile operator in the Caribbean and new entrant to Central America, today announced that it has launched in Jamaica the “Digicel Vehicle Tracking” system, an easy to install GPRS electronic device for fleet management companies that tracks the location of vehicles on urban, regional and national travel routes.

Developed in partnership with KingAlarm Systems, Jamaica’s largest electronic security service company, the Digicel Vehicle Tracking system is a web application service that runs on Digicel’s nationwide GPRS/GSM network. The new service not only tracks the location of the vehicle anywhere across the country on a 24/7 basis but also provides monthly travel history reports of each installed vehicle and e-mail alerts to notify fleet managers of excessive speeding, ignition on/off, location and arrival and departure times.

“Digicel Vehicle Tracking is an innovative business solution that will help fleet management companies significantly improve the management of their small, medium and large fleets and reduce associated costs with the time spent on tracking their fleets. The new system will be an integral part of Digicel Business solutions for mobile work forces, which also offers our Push to Talk and Closed User Groups business services,” said Chris Hayman, Digicel Jamaica’s Head of Business Sales.

According to John P. Azar, KingAlarm’s Managing Director, the new Vehicle Tracking system delivers several security enhanced features and he is looking forward reaping the benefits of Digicel’s cutting-edge mobile technology.

“We are delighted to enter this partnership with Digicel and will place significant emphasis on protecting property through our Stolen Vehicle Recovery Systems, and protecting life via the monitoring of Panic Buttons, which can be discreetly and strategically mounted in each vehicle,” said Mr. Azar.
