Digicel, the Caribbean mobile operator owned by Denis O’Brien, had revenues of $948 million last year as its subscriber base surged to 4.1 million people.

The firm had earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) of $132 million and restricted group Ebitda of $270 million in 2006, according to credit rating agency Fitch Ratings. ‘‘Digicel’s operating performance continues to be strong,” the agency said.

O’Brien last year said that he expected Digicel to have annual revenues of $1 billion by 2008, so the firm is ahead of its own targets.

According to Fitch Ratings, Digicel has ‘‘proved successful in turning operations Ebitda positive in a short period of time and gaining subscribers at a rapid pace’’.
